Question: Why
is self-determination so important?
Special education research has shown that students with
disabilities who left school with more self-determination
skills, were more than twice as likely as their peers
to be employed one year after graduation.
And they earned
significantly more. Three years after graduation, they
were more likely to have jobs with benefits like health
coverage and vacation.
And were more likely
to be living somewhere other than the family home.
